10 Years of Guantanamo Goo

Mr. Kammen will discuss his experience as defense counsel at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, specifically his defense of accused war criminal Abd al Rahim al Nashiri, in U.S. custody since 2002 for masterminding the attack on the US Navy Warship USS Cole in 2000.  Facing the death penalty, the CIA has admitted to torturing Al Nashiri and destroying recorded interrogations. There is still no trial date set.  Mr. Kammen is a prominent anti-death penalty defense counsel in state and federal courts, and is on the faculty at the National Criminal Defense College and Trial Lawyers College.

The Veterans Treatment Court in Douglas County was dedicated in November 2016 and in Lancaster County in April 2017. This panel discussion will provide insight into the goals and operation of this Problem Solving Court.
